Martin's notes: I did the feedback for 'Upon 9th and Fairchild' in the tape room at Protocol. The name was from a street on which a friend of mine lived in Minneapolis. It was Hennepin but there is a Tom Waits song called 9th and Hennepin so I called it 9th and Fairchild after the compressors they had in the studio. It was a song about the flat we first lived in in Liverpool, about not wanting to have to go to work anymore. We were trying to get a certain band's sound for the guitars in the chorus but I can't remember who it was.
Lyrics: I don't need you preaching, telling me points of law. I've got my own problems trying to stay off the floor. As the vultures circle and the bills and demands fill the floor, it's been three weeks and three days since i last stepped out my door. This is my life too, this is mine. Jesus this room's so cold, but you've got your own problems - I can't see an end to it all.
