Martin's notes: Barney (...And Me) starts like an Electronic song although now it sounds more like Just like Heaven by Dinosaur Jr. It always reminds me of Belvedere field near where I was brought up, I don't know why, it's a pretty strong feeling. Maybe I made up some of the words there on a trip home. The 'Faye Dunaway' line is just something we sang, we were looking for something to fill that gap and it's easier to harmonise on a word and that was the word, or words, that we sang. Maybe the film 'Bonnie and Clyde' had been on the night before or something. That film always gets me goin' for a couple of days. The guitar solo sounds like it was recorded on an electric squash racket.
Lyrics: Now it's getting colder, my hand's chilled to the bone. I watch you breath and trace its steps as it mingles with my own. The lake is almost frozen, the grass is silver air. The wind is high in the blue sky, I wish that I could care. I recall when we were younger we shared the streets of home. Spoke of our dreams and soaring schemes and places we would go. If I stay around much longer I'll never leave again. I have to move, I cannot stay, believe the voice that tells me "leave it all behind me". I know that I, I know that I am wrong. I'll never leave now, it has been so long. And now I'm getting older, I still can't find the words to empathise with what's inside, express the way I feel. And now I'm getting older it's easier to hide, to run away day after day, betray the voice that tells me "leave it all behind me". I know that I, I know that i am wrong. I'll never leave now it has been so long. Ooh, ooh, Faye Dunaway.
